About Us

Our story:

From his humble beginnings on a Michigan farm, Saul Levine became an FM radio pioneer in 1959 launching Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters in Southern California. Levine’s radio success helped him get back to his roots, and with his wife Anita he started Cobblestone Vineyards. For over 30 years Cobblestone only grew grapes for premium California wineries, until 2004 when the Levines released their own wines under the Cobblestone label. These limited production, single-vineyard wines have since received consistent acclaim from the top critics and publications, and are featured at many of the nation’s premier restaurants and wine shops.

Our vineyards:

The first Cobblestone estate began in 1971 in what has become the Arroyo Seco appellation in central Monterey County. This 50-acre property, planted exclusively to Chardonnay, is where our wine got its name. The soil is densely packed with cobblestones (known locally as ‘Greenfield Potatoes’), which have a positive effect on drainage and temperature.

In 1997 the Levines discovered what would be their second estate vineyard high in the Atlas Peak appellation along Napa Valley’s east ridge. With the help of a little dynamite, this rocky mountaintop property was planted to multiple Cabernet clones and other Bordeaux varietals, and became the breathtaking birthplace of Cobblestone Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cobblestone wines are crafted at the beautiful Terra Valentine winery by Sam Baxter. Sam shares the

Cobblestone philosophy of showcasing true varietal characteristics and the vineyards’ unique and expressive terroir without unnecessary interference.

Cobblestone Chardonnay

Reminiscent of the cool-climate Chardonnays of Northern Burgundy, Cobblestone Chardonnay is made entirely from the fruit of the family’s Arroyo Seco vineyard in Monterey. With stainless steel fermentation followed by French oak aging, it consistently showcases crisp Old World complexity coupled with the brightness of New World fruit. The structure and balance make for an elegant and extremely versatile food-pairing wine.

Cobblestone Cabernet Sauvignon

Cobblestone Cabernet Sauvignon hails from the Levines’ mountain vineyard on Napa Valley’s Atlas Peak, where the high elevation lends elegance and complexity rarely found on the valley floor. With its remarkable structure and extended time in French oak barrels, Cobblestone Cabernet reliably delivers exceptional aging potential. Always intense, concentrated and stunningly delicious, this is classic Napa Cab that’s big, bold and balanced.
